THE HEART OF A MOTHER

 

The pleasure of conception,
The toll of pregnancy,
The joy of delivery,
The roller coaster ride of child rearing;
Couldn't be achieved but for the heart of a mother.

The psychological trauma,
The emotional torture of an unfulfilled desire, 
An otherwise lovely journey truncated,
The pain of watching your heart desires become guardian angels;
Couldn't be endured but for the heart of a mother

You stepped in when all hope was gone,
You gladly nurtured when it wasn't yours,
You gave sweat and blood to see them smile,
The beauty of caring for other fruits not from your womb,
Couldn't have been possible but for the heart of a mother.

Today we celebrate you,
We sing your praise,
No matter what qualifies your motherhood,
We want you to know how amazing you are.
Not just because you're a woman, but because you have the heart of a mother.
